Fafan Cultural Competition — Award Ceremony

CYRO held the award ceremony for the Fafan Cultural Competition for Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion, honouring the young winners whose poetry, traditional arts and cultural performances carried powerful messages of peace, unity, reconciliation and tolerance. The event brought together the Fafan Zone administration, led by Chief Administrator H.E. Khader Abdinur, alongside government officials, humanitarian partners, youth organisations and community representatives.

Fafan Zone Youth Peace Competition

CYRO successfully held the Fafan Zone Youth Peace Competition, giving young people a platform to express their talents and voices for peacebuilding and social cohesion. Participants showcased literary, artistic and dramatic skills through powerful performances about peace, unity, reconciliation, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

Structured Dialogue between Youth, Elders and Decision-Makers

Structured Dialogue for Peace & Inclusion

CYRO hosted a Structured Dialogue between Youth, Elders and Decision-Makers, bringing together youth, elders, religious leaders and local government officials to openly discuss issues affecting their community.

  • Agreed on joint recommendations for key community issues

Peacebuilding & Conflict Resolution Training in Tuliguleed

CYRO delivered a half-day training on Peacebuilding, Conflict Resolution and Negotiation Skills for 10 youth participants, concluding with the formation of a Youth Peace Circle that meets bi-monthly as ambassadors of peace in their community.

Implemented under the Conciliation Resources fund, supported by Irish Aid.

Core Youth Support and Training on YPS and Leadership

Strengthening Youth Leadership for Peace (YPS Training)

Over 48 youth from the Somali Region and border woredas took part in intensive sessions on the UN Youth, Peace & Security (YPS) Agenda, leadership and conflict sensitivity. Using the "Do No Harm" approach, participants explored the five YPS pillars and developed practical policy recommendations — with standout youth recognized for leadership and commitment to peace.

Role of Youth in the Somali Peace Agenda

An engaging session bringing together youth from Awbare, Harshin and Jigjiga, members of Youth Peace Circles and other youth leaders. Participants shared real experiences from border woredas, discussed conflict drivers, and proposed practical solutions to strengthen youth inclusion in the SRS Peace Architecture.

New Magazine for the Somali Region Victims Network

CYRO participated in a workshop reviewing and developing a magazine initiated by Conciliation Resources, to be published by the Somali Region Victims Network — spotlighting the voices and experiences of victims in the region. The team also visited Jail Ogaden to gather firsthand information on detainee conditions, ensuring the accuracy and credibility of the stories to be published.

Youth Leading the Way: Somali Youth Agenda in Progress

CYRO participated in and facilitated the Inclusive Youth Dialogue for Peace and Development (IYD4PD) workshop, in collaboration with YBUNTU Youth Peacebuilding Alliance and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). More than 50 youth representatives worked on drafting the Somali Youth Agenda — a youth-driven vision for peace, development and inclusion.
